Frequently Asked Questions
How long are the pieces and where do I buy them?
They are not pieces or sections. The breaks you see approximately every 24-30 inches are control / expansion joints. Decorative concrete landscape edgings are professionally installed by Accent Curbing at each jobsite.
How long does the curbing last?
The curbing will last many years with proper care and maintenance. We apply a clear commercial grade acrylic sealer to all colored and stamped curbs after installation. Sealing once a year will help assure a long and healthy life of your concrete border.
How deep do you dig and how deep is the footing?
We dig between 1-2 inches deep by 10 inches wide using a sod cutter. This can be done without damaging your landscape beds or shrubbery. We use the sod cutter to cut an even path along your landscape beds to ensure a level installation. There is no footer, as the curb is concrete and acts as its own footing.
What about frost and ground movement?
What makes concrete curbing so attractive is the fact that its one continuous piece of concrete. Individual blocks or bricks will shift over time and in the winter. Our curbing is reinforced with fiber mesh which is designed to take the place of rebar or steel and adds strength to the curb. We place control / expansion joints every 24-30 inches which are cut about 40% into the curb, therefore if the ground moves, the curb will crack at these joints.
Is the color painted or stained on the curb?
All of the colors are added to the concrete during the mixing process. There is no painting or staining. Our colors will not flake off or disappear over time. A sealer can aid in the lifetime of the color, we recommend sealing the curb once a year.
Are you limited to a design layout?
Concrete curbing is ideal for most any terrain. Accent Curbing uses a small concrete extruding machine that is very easily maneuvered, thereby providing the design flexibility needed for your specific lawn type. It curves, circles, or extrudes straight lines to allow for endless design capabilities.
How effective is concrete curbing in keeping out grass?
Extruded concrete curbing has a proven track record at preventing sod from entering your landscape beds. Your constant dilemma to keep sod out of your flower beds ended with this invention. You also do not have weeds growing in between this edging since it is one continuous piece, nor can sod grow under it if it is prepared correctly. There are many landscape molds to choose from. The most common are the “slant” & “mower” styles. With our machine, both molds have a minimum 4 inch height in back and 2 inch on front. The curb is actually 6 inches wide. Our landscape molds are designed high enough to keep sod from growing through it, and also high enough on the back to retain your bed covering, such as mulch.
What does it cost?
A job is estimated on the basis of many factors including the amount of footage being installed, choice of styles & patterns, type of coloring, removal of sod or debris, preparation of the site, and ease of installation. Like every other construction project, it is necessary to obtain an estimate for your particular installation. Accent Curbing provides FREE on-site estimates. |
